Dwayne Johnson, born with wrestling in his blood as part of the Samoan Anoa’i family, had the perfect blend to become a WWE superstar with his half-Black and half-Samoan heritage from his father Rocky Johnson. As a child, Dwayne Johnson watched his father, Rocky Johnson, in the wrestling ring and had big shoes to fill coming from a family of legendary wrestlers.

The Rock’s maternal grandfather, Peter Maivia, was also famous in the wrestling business. But despite surpassing his father’s legacy, Rocky Johnson remains Dwayne’s inspiration.

Recently, the former wrestler shared a rare clip of his father teaming up with Tony Atlas in a match while a young Rock watched from the front row.

The caption read, ‘By the age of 5, my dad had me in the gym, kicking my little ass all over the wrestling mats. By 12 he’d make me get up with him at 5am every Saturday and Sunday to go workout on the weights. Discipline. Extreme at times but that was his way. This is why the gym will always be my sacred place 💀 My therapy, my refuge.’

The Instagram caption revealed that the actor began working out at 5 and lifted weights with his father Rocky Johnson on weekends at 12. His discipline is a testament to the tough love of his father. Dwyane also considers the gym his sacred place and praised the impressive genetics of Tony Atlas and Rocky Johnson.

Rocky Johnson and Tony Atlas were known as “The Soul Patrol” and made history in 1983 by defeating the Wild Samoans to become the first black WWE Tag Team Champions. While Rocky won several championships in NWA, he retired from wrestling in 1991 and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by his son, The Rock, in 2008. Rocky passed away on January 15, 2020, at the age of 75.
