Posted by The Little Mermaid’s live-action remake premiered on Monday and is now garnering reviews. The movie boasts an impressive cast with Halle Bailey, Javier Bardem, Awkwafina, Jonah Hauer-King, and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula. Rob Marshall directs the updated version of the 1989 Disney classic, with Alan Menken returning to update the score and collaborate with Lin-Manuel Miranda on a new song. The movie features four new songs and it’s set for release on May 26th.
Disney’s live-action remakes have become a cash cow, with Beauty and the Beast (2017), Aladdin (2019), and The Lion King (2019) all crossing the $1 billion global box office mark. The studio is also preparing to release Snow White in March 2024, starring Rachel Zegler. Meanwhile, Lilo & Stitch is currently being filmed, and director Barry Jenkins is developing the Lion King prequel, Mufasa: The Lion King. So far, formal reviews of the Little Mermaid film aren’t out yet, but people have taken to social media to share their thoughts. Have a look.
