Blake Lively made headlines last week when she disclosed that she would not grace the Met Gala with her presence, instead opting to tune in from her home couch. Since 2008, the mother of four has been a mainstay on the gala’s red carpet, and she has had a close bond with Karl Lagerfeld, whose designs served as inspiration for this year’s event.
Blake had accompanied Lagerfeld to the gala in 2011. And during last year’s “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” themed gala, which she co-hosted, the actress turned heads when she sported a pink metallic gown that transformed into a gigantic turquoise dress, paid tribute to the Statue of Liberty, and created quite a buzz that lasted for days.
It’s possible that Lively’s non-attendance at the Met Gala was due to her recent childbirth.
On Monday, while her peers were getting ready for the event, Lively shared a photo of herself in a restroom pumping breast milk and captioned it, “First Monday in May.”
However, another reason for her absence could be her preference for soccer. The Daily Mail reported that Lively is expected to join her husband, Ryan Reynolds, for an open-top bus parade in Wrexham, England, on Tuesday. In 2020, Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought Wrexham’s football team, Wrexham AFC, which recently won the National League.
The actress’s husband, Reynolds had also doubled down on their absence, sharing they would be across the pond with the soccer team he co-owns with Rob McElhenney. The “Deadpool” star, 46, told “Access Hollywood, “I think we’ll be in the UK. We have Wrexham business to deal with.” However, despite missing this year’s gala, Lively made her post-baby red carpet return last month.
