Numerous strands of pearls laid atop her tan corset, with more still functioning as Kardashian’s full-length skirt. The outfit has received much praise for being an elegant representation of a prevalent trend at the Gala.
“I thought, ‘What is more Karl?’ You know, the iconic Chanel pearls is what I always thought of. So, we wanted to just be dripping in pearls,” Kardashian said of her custom ensemble on Vogue’s livestream from the red carpet.
In recent years, the Kardashian-Jenner family has become a fixture at the Met Gala. At the previous year’s event, Kardashian caused a stir by donning the legendary dress that Marilyn Monroe wore while singing “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy in 1962. At the 2021 Met Gala, she was just as audacious in a black, fully-enveloping “faceless” Balenciaga gown.
Kardashian’s younger half-sisters, Kylie and Kendall Jenner, graced the event as well this year. Kylie flaunted a striking red, specially-crafted Jean Paul Gaultier gown paired with an enormous red and baby blue coat, both designed by Haider Ackermann. Having walked the runways for Lagerfeld’s Chanel on numerous occasions, Kendall shone in a black, sequin-covered Marc Jacobs leotard featuring floor-sweeping sleeves and knee-high boots.
However, some social media users have likened Kim Kardashian’s outfit to the nearly naked photoshoot she participated in for the inaugural season of her reality series, “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.”
