Patriots’ Day, a multi-day festival held in and around Boston, is a commemoration of the first battle of the American Revolution that took place in the nearby villages of Menotomy (now Arlington), Lexington, and Concord on April 19, 1775. Celebrated on the third Monday of April, which also coincides with the Boston Marathon, this unique Massachusetts state holiday offers a variety of events that take place throughout the weekend and at other times in April.

The Patriots’ Day festival features notable events such as Paul Revere’s famous midnight ride from Boston, historic militia marches, and reenactments of the battles on Lexington Green and Old North Bridge in Concord.

These reenactments are carried out by costumed members of historic militias, who strive to keep history alive and honor those who fought for liberty almost 250 years ago. Surprisingly, many locals attend these reenactments, and even some tourists are aware of this annual tradition. If you happen to be visiting Boston in April, be sure not to miss the opportunity to witness these special and free reenactments.

They are truly one-of-a-kind, as they take place in the very region where the American Revolution began, showcasing the rich history and significance of Boston and its surrounding towns and countryside.
