May 4th, recognized as Star Wars Day due to its similarity to the line “May the Force be With You” sees the acknowledgment of one of the Star Wars franchise’s most beloved figures, Carrie Fisher receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The actress is known for her role as Princess Leia in the franchise and the honor is to celebrate her significant contribution to the industry.

“Carrie Fisher will join her Star Wars co-stars and fellow Walk of Famers Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford on this historic sidewalk,” said Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, in a statement.

As per the organization, Leia’s star will be situated near that of her twin brother, Luke Skywalker portrayed by Mark Hamill. And remarkably, Hamill’s star is only a short distance away from Fisher’s. Also, Debbie Reynolds, Fisher’s mother and a celebrated actress recognized for her performance in the musical Singin’ in the Rain, has her star placed across the street.

2016 saw the passing of both Fisher and Reynolds within a day of each other. Billie Lourd, Fisher’s daughter and an actress in the Star Wars series, will accept the honor on behalf of her mother amid the ceremony set to be streamed live at 11:30 a.m. PT.

Fisher was equally an accomplished author and wrote several novels and memoirs.

However, the Walk of Fame, initiated by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in 1960, presently features 2,754 stars.
