Oscar Winner Cuba Gooding Finally Settles Civil S*x Abuse

Cuba Gooding Jr. has settled his legal case with a woman who alleged he raped her in a New York City hotel room a decade ago. It was reached just as jury selection was set to commence on Tuesday for a federal civil trial, where the actor faced the potential of paying significant damages had the jury ruled in favor of the accuser. The plaintiff sought $6 million in damages, but the details of the settlement remain undisclosed

In August 2013, as outlined in the woman’s lawsuit, she met with Cuba Gooding while having dinner with a friend at a restaurant in Greenwich Village.

The lawsuit alleges that Gooding then extended an invitation to join him at the Mercer Hotel, for drinks, and suggested she accompany him to his room while he changed clothes. The Oscar winner then allegedly put on music and positioned himself between her and the hotel room door, proceeding to remove his clothing. The woman alleges that when she attempted to leave, Gooding forcefully pushed her onto the bed.

The lawsuit further asserts that Gooding forcibly removed the woman’s underwear and committed rape and allegedly raped her a second time a short while later.

The Oscar-winning actor denied these allegations and maintains that the encounter was consensual. However, Gooding avoided prison in 2022 by pleading guilty in a state criminal case that accused him of groping several women. After admitting guilt to a misdemeanor charge, the actor underwent counseling aimed at addressing his alcohol, and behavioral concerns and was then allowed to withdraw the plea. The AP reported that he instead pleaded guilty to a non-criminal harassment violation. As a result, his record was cleared.
