Late Tuesday, an unknown man caused a three-hour shutdown in Hollywood’s Sunset Boulevard after he climbed a TV tower to wave in the air a “Free Billie Eilish” sign. The man specifically climbed the 162ft tower of California news station KTLA and played his guitar while bystanders watched from below.
The man is now been referred to as a protester, according to the California outlet, however, it’s unclear what he was protesting about Billie Eilish.
And while he only made it 30 feet up the tower, the musical protester was eventually brought and arrested just after midnight by the police. Social media videos have shown the Los Angeles Fire Department using an inflatable airbag to bring him down safely.
The man also reportedly held a white sheet with black lettering that states, “MK ultra s*x slaves Donald Marshall clones.”
Amid the incident, the NY Post reported that traffic in the area came to a standstill as police closed off roads near the TV tower. Accordingly, power to the tower was shut off as officials pleaded with the man to come down. As reported by CBS 8 producer Malik Earnest, the man was arrested on trespassing charges.
Since the ordeal, “Free Billie Eilish” has been trending on Twitter, and some fans have been left confused by the man’s message of the 21-year-old “Bad Guy” singer.
“Free Billie Eilish, she ain’t do nothing,” one confused fan tweeted. Another said, “This free Billie Eilish thing is the most random thing ever.” While a third added, “Billie Eilish, sleeping peacefully as ‘FREE BILLIE EILISH’ trends, not knowing she needs to be set free.” Nonetheless, the 7-time Grammy winner, who appeared on the Late Late Show with James Corden earlier in the day, is not currently in any legal trouble.
Billie herself is yet to address the bizarre incident.
