Over the weekend, more than 100 people flocked to the home of owner Leonel Costa to celebrate with Bobi, the world’s oldest dog. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo is now age 31 and neighbors didn’t hesitate to party at his home in the rural Portuguese village of Conqueiros, where Bobi has lived his entire life.
On the menu, local meats and fish were served to up to 100 guests, with extra for Bobi. Also, a dance troupe performed with Bobi participating in their routines.
Owner Costa reportedly claimed he never imagined that Bobi would reach his 30s. As per ABC News, he explained, “We see situations like this as a normal result of the life that they have, but Bobi is one of a kind. One of the biggest contributing factors to Bobi’s longevity is the “calm, peaceful environment” in which he lives.” Throughout his life, it’s said that Bobi was never chained or leashed and freely roamed the forests surrounding the Costa house.
The owner added, ‘The very sociable was never lonely because he grew up surrounded by many other animals.” Sadly, Bobi now finds it difficult to walk and now prefers to hang out at home in his year. Costa claimed his eyesight has also gotten worsen and often bumps into things. Costa has owned several old-aged dogs in the past, including Bobi’s mother, Gira who lived at the age of 18. He is currently 38, meaning he was 8 years old when Bobi was born. And for Costa, Bobi remains a living reminder of the past.
