An old scandal centered on US financier Jeffrey Epstein and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has emerged online, and the revelations are raising eyebrows. The Wall Street Journal reports that Epstein tried to blackmail Gates over an alleged affair with Russian bridge player Mila Antonova. Gates and Antonova met in 2010 when she was in her 20s, sharing a passion for playing bridge.
A video that dates back to 2020, in which Mila mentioned Bill Gates, has emerged. It’s to be noted that the billionaire was at this time still married to Melinda Gates.
Epstein reportedly discovered the affair and in 2017, sent an email attempting to use it as leverage to blackmail Gates. Bill Gates received the email from Epstein asking for reimbursement for covering the costs of Antonova’s coding school. The email also contained implicit blackmail undertones, suggesting Epstein possessed information about Gates’ affair and could expose it if his demand was not fulfilled.
Gates and Epstein started meeting in 2011 when Epstein had already faced conviction for s*x crimes.
However, a spokesperson for Bill Gates told the publication that Gates and Epstein met solely for ‘philanthropic purposes and the latter tried leveraging ‘a past relationship’ to threaten the Microsoft founder, stating. “Mr. Gates met with Epstein solely for philanthropic purposes. Having failed repeatedly to draw Mr. Gates beyond these matters, Epstein tried unsuccessfully to leverage a past relationship to threaten Mr. Gates.”
It’s alleged the email was sent after Epstein failed to convince Gates of donating to his (Epstein’s) multibillion-dollar charity fund.
According to reports, the fund was set up by Epstein as a means of clearing his name in the public eye. He wanted to start the fund at JPMorgan Chase and lied to the bank he was a close friend of Gates. The report further sheds light on how Mila Antonova met with Epstein. The Russian bridge player had planned to teach people how to play the game and to start her business venture when she met Epstein.
Gates’ confidant, Boris Nikolic, reportedly introduced Antonova to Epstein as she was looking for a sponsor for her venture.
In 2013, the pair met at Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse, the report revealed, stating the US financier didn’t invest in Antonova’s venture, but offered to cover her coding school costs. “I don’t know why he did that,” Antonova said in an interview with Wall Street Journal and added, “When I asked, he said something like, he was wealthy and wanted to help people when he could.”
Epstein at the time also provided an apartment in New York City to Antonova, where she resided briefly. And during her stay, Antonova claimed she had no interaction with Epstein or anyone else. She is currently an entrepreneur and has expressed her repulsion towards Epstein’s actions. According to the Wall Street Journal, she mentioned being unaware of Epstein’s background in the past and also refused to comment on the alleged affair with Bill Gates.
