In the newest episode of Sunday Sit-down, the actor spoke with Willie Geist about his struggle with oral cancer, diagnosed in 2017, and how it required intensive treatment. Stanley Tucci also reflected on his first wife, Kathryn Spath, who died in 2009 from complications related to breast cancer.
Tucci, who admitted he was on a feeding tube for six months due to cancer, has been the recipient of several prestigious awards.
He is known for his distinctive character roles, delivering notable performances in various productions, such as Steven Spielberg’s The Terminal and the fantasy movie series The Hunger Games. Of his health, Tucci told host Willie, “My late wife and I, traveled all over the world trying to find a cure for her. “So when I got it, I was completely shocked.”
The actor added, “I was terrified, absolutely terrified.” When asked about the treatments, he described them as “brutal” and “awful.”
“I lost 35 pounds,” Tucci continued. “I couldn’t eat.” I had a feeding tube for six months, and everything tasted and smelled like you-know-what. “And it took months and months and months for me to finally be able to eat again and then taste properly again.” However, he expressed appreciation for his wife Felicity for being his unwavering support and said, “She was amazing.” “She still is.”
Tucci’s latest project is the Amazon Prime series Citadel, in which he appeared alongside Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
