The WNBA player is expected to attend the upcoming Met Gala, Page Six reports. Brittney Griner gained widespread media attention after being unjustly detained in Russia for several months between February and December of 2022. Recently, Griner attended the National Action Network’s Women’s Empowerment Luncheon, hosted by Rev. Al Sharpton, in New York City. At the event, she pledged her support to help people who face similar circumstances while being held in foreign countries. “I want to continue to fight to bring home every American detained overseas. That means everything to me,” she said.

And as per tradition, guests usually attend the gala with the fashion designer whose fashion house dressed them for the occasion. The luxurious event, with the theme “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” is scheduled for May 1 and will host several high-profile celebrities.

In her recent media appearance, the Phoenix Mercury player spoke out against state laws that prohibit transgender athletes from competing in sports.

Griner denounced such as “a crime,” stating it is unjust to segregate people for any reason. Hitting back, Riley tweeted, “Which NBA team would have @brittneygriner since apparently the overwhelming, obvious differences between men and women should simply be overlooked? Heartbreaking to see athletically successful women take this demeaning stance. And if we’re going to talk about crimes, Brittney…”
