The Scottish singer has returned to the stage that launched her career. Susan Boyle originally competed on the British show in 2009 and, at the time, left judges and the world wowed with her emotional rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Misérables. Now she’s back after facing a health scare in 2023, suffering a stroke that affected her ability to sing.
At the recently-held finale, the opera singer Susan Boyle was joined by the West End of the iconic musical to perform the song that charted her career.
Judge Simon Cowell was impressed by the moment, and the BGT creator said, “Susan, we owe you so much, and I knew you weren’t well but if anyone was going to come back, you were going to come back because we wouldn’t be the same without you. You are amazing.” Then Boyle, 62, opened up about what it meant for her to return despite the challenges of her health condition.
“It feels great,” the Scottish singer said while appearing on the season 16 finale of Britain’s Got Talent. “It’s extra special for me actually because last April there, I suffered a minor stroke, and I fought like crazy to be back on stage, and I have done it.” Boyle also took to Instagram, writing that she has worked so hard to get her speech and singing back, with the sole aim of being able to sing on stage again.
However, the Wild Horses songstress wasn’t crowned the winner of her season but as the runner-up, she released her debut album, I Dreamed A Dream, which was reportedly the best-selling debut album in U.K. chart history at the time. Boyle’s second album, The Gift had also peaked on both the U.K. and U.S. charts. The songstress in 2019 competed in the first season of American’s Got Talent: The Champions and made it to the finals but ended up finishing in the top 5.
