The rocket began to lose control and was eventually destroyed by onboard charges just two to three minutes into the flight.

Elon Musk was physically present in the control room in Texas to witness the launch. As the CEO of SpaceX, it is not uncommon for Musk to be present during important rocket launches and other critical events related to the company's operations. Being present in the control room allows him to closely monitor the progress of the launch and provide inputs in real-time if required.

Crowds numbering in the thousands had assembled on nearby beaches to witness the starship launch.

Nonetheless, the SpaceX engineers considered it a success, as they were able to gather a significant amount of data for their next attempt. Musk announced that the company would try again in a few months with a second Starship, which is almost ready for launch.

SpaceX engineers still class Thursday's mission as a success. They like to "test early and often" and are not afraid to break things. They will have gathered a mass of data to work towards the next flight. A second Starship is almost ready to take flight.
